Port of Cromarty Firth Supports Invergordon Junior Football Club with Funding Boost
The Invergordon Junior Football Club has received support from the Port of Cromarty Firth (PoCF) to help deliver its new project aimed at expanding access to football for local children.
The funding, awarded through the PoCF’s Community Sponsorship Programme, will go towards the purchase of essential training equipment. These resources will help the club with training sessions and tournaments across the nine communities bordering the Cromarty Firth.
The Invergordon Junior Football Club’s mission centres on giving children aged five to 16 the opportunity to stay active, develop football skills, and grow confidence through sport. The project will also create pathways into coaching and refereeing, offering leadership and employability training for young people.
Alex Campbell, Chief Executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth, said: “The Port is delighted to work with projects in the local community through the Community Sponsorship Programme. We’re pleased to support Invergordon Junior Football Club in its goal of making football more inclusive and accessible.
“This project aligns with our vision for a healthy, connected, and vibrant community and provides a lasting impact for local families.”
This initiative is one of many supported through the PoCF’s Community Sponsorship Programme, which backs projects promoting youth development, sustainability, and inter-community collaboration across the region.
Gemma Mackay, Team Secretary for the football club, said: “We’re absolutely delighted and incredibly grateful to the Port of Cromarty Firth for their generous £2,000 donation.
“This funding will make a real difference to our young players by helping us purchase new training equipment and vital first aid supplies. Support like this not only strengthens grassroots sport, but it also shows real commitment to the wellbeing and development of local children. We’re proud to be working in partnership with the Port to build a stronger, safer future for our football community.”
The project also hopes to contribute to environmental goals by reducing car journeys through group transport and encouraging active, outdoor lifestyles. As part of its long-term sustainability vision, the club hopes to explore hybrid or electric transport solutions in partnership with the Port.
The Port’s support will not only help children play the sport they love, it will promote local connections, build essential life skills, and strengthen the role of youth sport as a positive force in the Cromarty Firth communities. The resources offered will also help to remove financial and transport barriers to participation.
The Community Sponsorship Programme aspires to improve, safeguard and develop Cromarty Firth communities, for the benefit of the local people.
Community projects, schools or local charities based in one of the nine communities that border the Cromarty Firth are welcome to apply for support. They can do so by submitting an application form stating the project’s objectives, aspirations and the benefits to the community, along with a letter/email of support from their local Community Council.
Projects must be collaborative and meet one of four eligibility criteria:
– Skills development, employability or job creation,
– Vessel crew or passenger support,
– Environmental protection or enhancement,
– Events or projects which encourage inter-community collaboration.
