Vacancy: Senior Coxswain

The Port of Cromarty Firth is a Trust Port which exists to improve, safeguard and develop the Cromarty Firth as a Port for the benefit of stakeholders and is a self-financing commercial business based in Invergordon, Scotland.

We are currently seeking an experienced Coxswain to join our Marine team as Senior Coxswain. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced marine environment and is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and professional services across the Port and the wider Cromarty Firth pilotage district.

About you: The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Marine team, supporting the safe and efficient operation of the pilot boat service. The role requires strong expertise in marine and port operations, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a clear commitment to ensuring the safe transfer of pilots at all times.

Applicants must hold all relevant qualifications required for Coxswain duties, together with a full UK driving licence.


Key responsibilities:

  • Perform operational duties in accordance with Coxswain duties & responsibilities , including safe navigation, vessel handling, and training & supervision.
  •  Lead and supervise marine team day-to-day, ensuring tasks are organised, completed safely, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.
  • Working with Facilities Operational Manager to coordinate resources to ensure operational service cover and participate as Team Leader for mooring operations, as required.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring all crew consistently comply with health, safety, environmental, and organisational policies and procedures, including those relating to harassment, working time regulations, wellbeing, GDPR, and equality & diversity.
  • Support training, mentoring, development and assessment processes of the marine team to maintain competency and performance standards.
  • Manage daily administrative activities, including raising purchase orders, coordinating and ordering consumables, and maintaining accurate records and act as the primary point of contact between the marine team and management, communicating operational updates, and resource requirements.
  • Review and maintain PoCF vessel including Pilot boats and equipment maintenance logs, ensuring all servicing and inspections are completed in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Support facility management with maintenance of port assets, including pilot boats, building repair and maintenance planning.
  • Manage working time practices including sickness/absence reporting and return to work procedures.
  • Monitoring time recording, attendance, and shift patterns.

Desirable Experience & Attribute Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven manger/supervisor experience
  • Plant certification/operator such as forklift etc
  • Valid ML5, or ENG1 Medical and Valid First Aid
  • Sea Survival, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting certification
  • Experience in drills & emergency response, exercises

Vacancy: Deputy Facilities Manager – Maintenance

The Port of Cromarty Firth is a Trust Port which exists to improve, safeguard and develop the Cromarty Firth as a Port for the benefit of stakeholders and is a self-financing commercial business based in Invergordon, Scotland.

We are currently seeking a Deputy Facilities Manager – Maintenance to join our team to support operations and manage our maintenance department. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who has experience working in a similar role within a dynamic environment.

About you: The successful candidate will support day-to-day running of operations, support and deputise for the Facility Operations Manager and  manage maintenance and engineering projects to ensure asset maintenance in a safe, complaint and structured manner.

Applicants must have experience in a similar role in a fast-paced environment, relevant skills & qualifications together with a full UK driving licence.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Facilities Maintenance Team, including day-to-day task allocation, performance management, providing clear and visible direction.
  • Develop and support maintenance planning including, but not limited to, ensuring PoCF quays, piers, warehouses and lay down areas remain fit for purpose, clear of debris and safe to use. Include setting and monitoring KPIs and targets in line with the plan & marine craft codes to meet service level agreements.
  • Manage and ensure compliance with fire, legionella, asbestos and other relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrate awareness of CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations, including duties relating to health, safety, risk management, and coordination.
  • On-site contractor management and Issuing Authority for permit to work.
  • Undertake the implementation of planned maintenance programs.
  • Supervision and control of equipment for the provision and receipt of fuel, water and waste, including the
    processing of returns where required.
  • Work collaboratively with customers and internal parties to ensure all assets are maintained.
  • Ensure invoicing is accurate and completed in a timely manner & manage utilities and re-charging process across
    the Port.
  • Proactively instruct and monitor inspections including the understanding of insurance obligations.
  • Work collaboratively with customers and internal teams to ensure all assets are maintained to the appropriate standard of repair, safety and reliability.
  • Ensure that planned and reactive maintenance and capital investment are undertaken.
  • Manage utilities and re-charging process across the Port.
  • Project manage port maintenance projects and arrange repairs and maintenance to facilities/equipment by contractors.
  • Deputise of the Facilities Operations Manager/ provide cover for Deputy Facilities Operations Manager in their absence.
  • Participate in supporting cruise operations – quayside set-up and coordination, participate within mooring operations as Team Leader, as required & supply of fuel and freshwater to vessels and rigs.
  • Participate in out of hours duty call-out rota.
  • Develop and maintain plant (forklift/crane/MEWP) & marine skills to support operations.
  • Support site emergency and oil spill response.
  • Other duties as required from time to time to meet the needs of the business.

Desirable Experience & Attribute Requirements:

  1. Maintenance Experience /Qualification, working in a similar role within a port/marine environment
  2. People, project & contractor management experience
  3. Proven knowledge of Health and Safety at work
  4. Proven responsibility for budget allocation
  5. Excellent communication skills, approachable, team leader
  6. NEBOSH General Certificate
  7. IOSH Managing Safely
  8. Coaching/mentoring experience
  9. Marine Deckhand experience

Monday – Friday, 0700-1530, flexible work arrangements to suit business needs, including cruise mooring requirements & routine on-call as required.
