Port Of Cromarty Firth Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 2021
At the Port of Cromarty Firth, we believe passionately that our people are at the heart of all that we do, and we continually strive to foster an environment that encourages personal development and positive mental health. So, after the challenging year we have all faced, we are delighted to support Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.
The theme for this year’s initiative is ‘Nature’, something that many of us have turned to for comfort and wellbeing during the pandemic. Being based in an area of such natural, breath-taking beauty, we feel compelled to recognise how fortunate we are to live and work in such a location, and are able to so easily access all the therapeutic benefits that nature offers. There simply could not be a more important time to understand the links between nature and mental health.
We believe in creating workplaces where everyone can thrive and in the important role that employers and businesses play in supporting thriving communities. We’ve worked closely with people and culture consultancy, Lindsay & Lang, to promote positive corporate wellbeing and enhance communication and performance. This ongoing work has helped us deliver staff wellbeing surveys, mental health awareness training, employee assistance programmes and mental health first aid training.
At the Port, we invest in and promote projects that will make a tangible difference to the mental health of both our people and our local community. Through our 2021 Community Sponsorship Programme, we have been honoured to assist the James Support Group, a Cromarty-based charity who deliver vital support to those in the Highlands bereaved or affected by suicide. Patrick and Wendy Mullery launched the James Support Group following the loss of their son James and have since devoted their time and energy into ensuring vulnerable people and families struggling with their mental health are listened to and supported.
Bob Buskie, our Chief Executive, comments:
“The values we hold here at Port of Cromarty Firth are clear; Open, Accountable, Respectful, Responsible, Dynamic and Sustainable. We believe that by embodying these values, we can deliver on our mission to improve, safeguard and develop the Cromarty Firth, as a port, for the benefit of all our stakeholders. There has never been a more critical time to talk about mental health, both in and out of the workplace, and we pledge to continue our support in this important area.”
