Invergordon High Street Blossoms with Backing from Port of Cromarty Firth

The Port of Cromarty Firth (POCF) has announced a donation of £2,000 to Invergordon Community Council, supporting the ongoing upkeep of High Street planters and helping to revitalise a much-loved feature of the town.

Over recent years, the planters had fallen into decline due to limited funds and a shortage of volunteers. While some community members worked hard to maintain certain areas, resources were stretched too thin to keep the displays thriving. Thanks to renewed determination from a growing group of volunteers, and financial support from the Port, the flower displays have been regenerated for the benefit of both residents and the many cruise liner tourists who visit Invergordon through the Port.

The donation has enabled the purchase of compost and bedding plants from two local charities, Blooming Gardeners and The Isobel Rhind Centre, both of which support vulnerable adults in the community.

Sabine Cross and Linda Barr, Community Volunteers, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Port of Cromarty Firth for their support. This funding has made a real difference, allowing us to brighten up the High Street, helping to build community pride and a warm welcome to visitors. The positive feedback we’ve received from locals and tourists alike has been hugely encouraging.”

Alex Campbell, Chief Executive at the Port of Cromarty Firth, said: “We’re delighted to support Invergordon Community Council in their efforts to restore the High Street planters. It’s fantastic to see volunteers and local charities working together to create something that enhances the town for both residents and visitors.”

With the experience gained this year, and the positive momentum created, it is hoped for some limited winter planting and even more vibrant displays in the coming year.

The Community Sponsorship Programme aspires to improve, safeguard and develop Cromarty Firth communities, for the benefit of the local people.

Community projects, schools or local charities based in one of the nine communities that border the Cromarty Firth are welcome to apply for support. They can do so by submitting an application form stating the project’s objectives, aspirations and the benefits to the community, along with a letter/email of support from their local Community Council.

Projects must be collaborative and meet one of four eligibility criteria:

– Skills development, employability or job creation,

– Vessel crew or passenger support,

– Environmental protection or enhancement,

– Events or projects which encourage inter-community collaboration.
